FINAL PROJECT "CrossFire"

For this project I was inspired by a Video installation with called "CrossFire", hense the name of my project, in which i mention in a couple blogs ago. It really inspired me to do something intimidating and to really get into people’s heads. My installation are videos surrounding the viewer and consists of anonymous people talking "shit" to you in a dark surrounding. My mission was give the viewer a intimidating and mean feeling on top of some sort of humor because of the content of the words used in the piece. It was interesting to compile two completely different feelings that makes the viewer confused and gives them a disturbing feeling at the same time. I was also inspired by my ethnic background of being a black male and just hearing people of the same race or just same environment talk down about eachother and giving negative feedback. Not wanting to see eachother succeed and it seems as if we are crabs in a bucket, always bringing eachother down. Even if it is just words, it could hurt a person. The being surrounded in the dark is to make the viewer feel kind of trapped and is sort of corner and would have to back out of it to get away. It’s definitely up close and personal but at the same time, you don’t know who it could be.

Final Project

For my project I am going to extend on my video installation. For my video installation I want to actually finish and get everything together to get the full experience of the installation. I want to get the booth built and get the monitors in the right position and use the stands that would better help the monitors get in the right positions

Project 1 Video Installation: Artist Statement

Project 1: Artist Statement

For this project I was inspired by a Video installation with called "CrossFire" which is Guns shooting on huge screens in a black room. It really inspired me to do something intimidating and to really get into people’s heads. My installation is are videos of anonymous people talking bad to you in a dark surrounding. It gives off a sense of humor in the content but more so intimidating. It was interesting to compile two completely different feelings that makes the viewer confused and gives them a disturbing feeling at the same time. They wouldn’t know if they want to laugh or crawl into a corner with their thumb in their mouth. It also brings into fact of my background of being a black male and just hearing african american people talk down about eachother and giving negative feedback. Not wanting to see eachother succeed and it seems as if we are crabs in a bucket, always bringing eachother down. Even if it is just words, it could hurt a person. The point of the booth is to make the viewer feel kind of trapped and is covered with black cloth to kill all light. So when you walk into the booth you are face to face with three people going at you with bad talk. It’s definitely up close and personal but at the same time, you don’t know who it could be.

Project # 1

Idea

The Idea of this project is to set up a walk in booth with three monitors. One in the front of you, one to your right and one to your left. The content on the monitor is people talking crap about you. Its no specific thing but just negative things about you. The idea of this installation is people talking about you behind your back and the video is just peoples silhouettes meaning like you never know who is actually doing it.
